Orange Shirt Day At Heritage

Sunday, September 30th is a day of remembrance for the Indigenous children who were sent to residential school in Canada. The day was inspired by the true story of one little girl, Phyllis, whose Granny bought her a shiny orange shirt for her first day of school. When she arrived at the mission school, her shirt was taken away and never returned.

On Monday, October 1, 2018, all students and staff are asked to wear an orange shirt. We will wear orange to honor these children – some of whom never returned home – and acknowledge the damage that was done to them and their families.
