Our Vision Takes Root

​

The current schoolyard is a plot of land with compacted soil and drainage challenges, presenting a perfect opportunity to transform it into a lush and inviting outdoor space.

 

With a pro-bono design from the architectural firm Architecture49, the school plans to create a multi-functional green space featuring native plant beds, an accessible outdoor classroom with a pergola, and specialized play areas designed to support the physical and emotional well-being of its students.

 

This project will provide a safe, therapeutic, and engaging outdoor learning environment for our students, while also revitalizing a historical part of Little Italy. Our first planting event is the perfect way to bring our shared vision to life.

 

The project is being led by a committee of dedicated volunteer parents and staff. While the design has been generously donated, the school is seeking financial contributions to cover the costs of materials, plants, and construction.

 

The community planting event on Tuesday, October 21st, from 10am to 2pm, will serve as the official launch of a wider fundraising campaign.

 

Our plans, designed by Architecture49, include:

• Learning Gardens: Beautiful plant beds filled with native species for hands-on environmental education.

• Accessible Pathways: Safe and inclusive walkways to ensure everyone can explore the space.

• A Peaceful Pergola: A shaded outdoor classroom where learning can happen in the fresh air.

• Specialized Play: Play structures designed to support the sensory and physical development of our students.

• Green Oasis: New grass, trees, and shrubs to create a biodiverse and welcoming environment.

Our property makeover will significantly benefit our neighbors by providing environmental and aesthetic improvements and revitalizing a historical part of Little Italy with a beautiful, lush green space.
